Robin Wood Residential, 7th-9th of June 2010

The Year 6's have now arrived back from Alston, where the Robin Wood Activity centre is. After a long and hard 2 and a half hour journey, we went on a nature hunt around the countryside. The Views were AMAZING!!! Unfortunately the weather was against us, with rain pouring down from the day we arrived to the day we left, But that was not stopping us!

The Activities

There were many Fun-Filled and exhilarating activities there, Like; Piranha Pool.

Stream Walk

We were the first year 6's from Robin Hood to do Stream Walk after they lifted the ban last year. They walk wasn't as easy as you think, there were slippery rocks and wobbly rocks and sometimes even both, we were soaking by the end. Also the water was also FREEZING, and we even had a water fight at the end.

Giant Swing

The Giant swing was probably the thrill of Robin Wood. We swung from a tall metal swing high up in the air, Pulling Winnie the Pooh to release the swing. The Swing went so fast that the force even hurt your face. Everybody had a choice on how high you wanted to go, most people went to the top.

Piranha Pool

Piranha Pool was a challenge that consisted of mazes, jigsaws and we even had to go across a giant pool.

Rodillian Teachers arrive at Robin Hood...

Yesterday y6 had a special visit from three teachers from Rodillian high school. Mr. Bush (head of year 7) had a chat with Mr.Simpson about what we are like, what levels we are working at and friendships. While they were having a great chat about us we did some activity's with Mrs. Singleton and Mr.Sweeney. We learned about the 5Rs which are Resilient, Reflective, Responsible, Resourcefull and Reasoning. Mrs. Singleton gave us all a sheet of paper where we had to put our name, school and three choice of friends (the choices are for who we want in our form class in high school) Before the teachers left our school they gave us a piece of paper top make a superhero top-trump card...It was an incredible afternoon!

Enterprise Project Buisness Plans with Mr Wilson

Yesterday all of Year 6 presented their business plans for their Enterprise Project to Mr Wilson. Eacg group were hoping to persuade him to loan an amount of money in order to resource the materials needed to make each product. Mr Wilson looked extremely pleased with our business plans. All of Year 6 have been working really hard to produce a high-quality buisness plans which clearly show where profits will be made. Mr Wilson gave some amazing comments on our buisness plans and he also said that we had all done very well. He also gave each group some tips on how to improve our business plans including thinking about market researching what children and parents thought a reasonable price to sell each product would be.

Today we have begun to make at least one quality example of our products so we can begin the market research and also present each product to Jenny from the PTA.

Local Government Project

On Thursday the 20th of May, the Year 6 pupils at Robin Hood Primary became MPs in the making as we discussed issues to do with the Local Government with a lady from The Local Government Yorkshire and Humber Group. We discussed what Local Government was with Farhana as well as listing as many jobs we could think of that are employed by The Local Council.
After working in groups, we came up with jobs like Graphic Design, Administrator Assistant, Refuse Collectors ( Dustbin Men and women), Social Worker and Teacher, which is pretty good considering that there are over 620 possible employment types when working for the Local Council!!!
At the end of the class debate we were all giving a quiz to figure out "How well we knew our Local Government". They were all multiple choice and there were some easier and and some harder questions. Questions like " The local government refers to what?" a) the MPs you vote for at a local election; b) the Local Council or c) the Scottish Parliament? were easy to answer because we had been listening very carefully to what Farhana had to say. Everyone enjoyed the lesson.

Farhana specialises in helping young people understand the importance of Local Government- she has visited many High Schools in the reigon, but we are the very first Primary School she has been to. She said that our responses to her questions we even better than those she sometimes gets at High Schools!!!

Year 6 Enterprise Project

Over the next few week all pupils will be designing and making products to sell at a profit at the Summer Fayre. We will have to ask Mr.Wilson to lend us some money in order to buy our materials. We have worked out our profit breakdowns in a detailed buisness plan. Each group are making something different ranging from Model Cars to stuffed teddy bears. We also have made buisness plans forwarded to Mr.Wilson in order to get the money asked for. Some groups are asking for more than others but making more money. We will also have to give Mr.Wilson the money we lent back. We have also have splitt the profits between our partner schools in Uganda and the new Year 6 Common Room.

What a Knight!

This years' end of Year 6 Production is entitled What a Knight.  There are many hilarious parts in the play and all Year 6 are lookin forward to the auditions for parts in the play which will take place next week. Jordan O'Neill has already decided which part he will be auditioning for - one of the Good Knights, who all have very amusing names. Jordan says that ''I want to be Sir Render because it will be funny when everyone has said my name :).'' (get it -haha lol)  Hon-Yin wants to be Merlin and so does Owen!!! I'm sure that there will be many outstanding auditions from the Year 6's - Mr Simpson, Mrs Brook and Miss Gascoigne will have a very difficult job to decide on who gets which part! I wouldn't want to be them!

Walk 2 school week

This week children throughout the country are walking to school. Many children in
Robin Hood primary school have made a huge effort to walk (or cycle) their way to
school. Depending on how many times you walk to school you will earn a fantastic
certificate. If you have made arrangements to be dropped off at a freinds house and
not outside the school gates, it will still count as walking to school! You will earn the
following certificate for the number of days you walk to school:

1 day=  bronze
2 days= silver
3 days= gold
4 days= diamond
5 days= platinum

We would like you to aim for the platinum certificate!!!!

14th May 2010

So Robin Hood have just finished a tiering 1.3 miles of deadly terain whilest constently running,
Here at school evryone is exaustedand and out of water so lets talk to some people who ran the tiering cross country :-

  • Megan Brown, who did the fun run, "It was really fun but when you got to the massive field it was quite hard"
  • Jake Whitwam , who did the fun run, " It was quite hard at parts but when you got really tired you had to keep going to try and get 1st,2nd or 3rd"!
  • Harry Kendell ,who did the boys A team,"It was tiring for me but I finnished in the end and came 31st "

This year we achived 2 medals both for second place one coming Jake whitwam and the other comes from Ellie Barltrop both were in the Fun run but because jake is in year 6 he won't be able to do the A team but ellie will have a chance.

This year all of the schools in rothwell, carlton, woodelsford, Robin hood and Saint Marys, came and ran there best so lets hope next year the year 5s will do better because this years year 6's will not be able to do the AMAZING cross country next year.

Today Supersonic Scott visited us to show us some whacky and wonderful experiments. His best friend EGGbert the egg had a problem. He was seriously overweight from eating an overdose of Junk foods causing him to not be able to fit into his house. Scott then burnt the oxygen inside Eggbert's home. Using the laws of science Eggbert popped into his House. He was also a crowd pleaser using dry Ice, We thought it was really COOOOOOL!!(get it?) He made a dry ice Gas shower which he tested on his assistent, Hannah Steel.

Robin Wood 2010

Robin Wood is a fun-filled adventure residential for 8-11 year olds. We will be staying at Barhaugh hall in Alston,Cumbria which can easily hold up to 180 children. Barhaugh hall is situated in the northen Penines standing in 9 acres of land. There are also a lot of activities dotted all around Robin Wood including stream walking and Expidition walking. Inside the activities centre buildings are all different activities both needing you to use brain and physical areas. There will be climbing walls and everybody will also be experiencing a caving!! There will also be the Piranha pool (of course!) which is a maze style activity usingmentaland physical skills, But the best partis the end where there will be a pool full of Piranhas. Each person will have to try and cross the pool without falling in, But Don't worry the Piranhas have had their teeth taken out(Do they grow back,i wonder?) so they wont bite but will just suck on your feet.

SATs

SATs have taking place and now completed. But does everbody like them? Hon Yin Lai investigates:-

I think that they help us prepare for year 7.
Beth Endersby, Miss gascoigne's class, Quoted " I think that they are stressing and are pointless to do"
Nathan Dickinson, Mr.Simpson's class, Quoted " At the beginning they were really presuring but they got easier as the week went on."
Megan Brown, Mrs.Brooks class, Qouted " They're not as bad as I was expecting, but they do put pressure us too much."
Emily gothard + Daniella Strangeway,miss gascoigne's class,Quoted"We are so glad that they are over(phew, what a relief!) They were really stressful we dont think the haribo's helped but Yummy in our tummy!?! hehe."
So the pupils of Robin Hood Primary school have mixed emotions.

What's going on in year 6?

In the last few weeks all Year 6 Pupils have been working hard prepairing for the SATs. Now thats all over Mr.Simpson has planned some amazing activities for the Summer Term. Here are a few:-

  • The Year 6's will be starting an Enterprise Project. We will be designing and making various products to sell at a profit at the School's Summer Fayre. The profits will go towards our fundraising for our partner schools in Uganda;
  • Also the Year 6's will be asked to work out how to spend a certain amount of money at the Fifa World Cup in South Africa including planning filght dates, accommadation, food and tickets towards the matches;
  • We will be researching and presenting many of the topics taught across school. Our final presentations will be uploaded onto the school's website and/or the new Learning Platform so children, parents and teachers can use them in the coming years;
  • We are also expecting a visit from the Year 7 teachers from our High Schools to tell us about what we can expect in September;
  • We will be having a few sessions about our views on Local Government and also what jobs/careers we aspire to;
  • We will be going on a 3-Day residential to the Robinwood Activity Centre in Alston, Cumbria.
  • The Year 6 Production will also take up alot of our time - learning lines, acting, singing and dancing too!

WOW! We're going to be very busy!
